We’ve been anticipating this day like a death sentence, and so has our Holly. The days and hours and minutes have been ticking off the clock relentlessly, bringing us to this place whether we wanted to be here or not. How do we speak of hope today?
We remember, that’s how — and we cherish every gossamer moment of joy that we can hold in our hearts for however long we can manage.
We’ve wrestled through our first year apart from Mason Justice, and what an F5 it’s been. Marathon crying jags, heart-wrenching rage…. and blessed victory that has been nothing less than anointed.
There have been victories, and today I want us to remember them.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve prayed for God to send someone else, someone besides Holly, to pour her life out to those whose loved ones have struggled with, attempted, or succeeded in taking their lives. Why her? Why should she be the one standing in this gap? But she has stood tall (except for when she hasn’t) and made sure that everyone in her world and beyond knows that they matter. Besides, she would tell you:
“If not me, then who?”
And what are you gonna say to that?
Here’s a recap of how far we’ve all come in one year. Every single one of these people know beyond doubt…
…that they matter.
Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart until, in our own despair and against our will, comes wisdom by the awful grace of God. (Aeschylus)
You matter every day, Mason Justice.
